In Memory of Grandpa

This past week I attended the funeral of my beloved grandpa Reuben Edward Adams. He was a crazy old man who was most often described as a quiet, jovial, friendly person by his those who knew him. I learned alot about my grandpa at his funeral. He was well traveled for a boy from a poor family in the country of Kibbee, Georgia. He joined the airforce and went on many adventures. He was devoted to his country, he loved politics and knew the importance of laughter and education and good hard work. Grandpa was always nice to me, I never remember anything negative about him except that he and grandma would bicker back and forth sometimes, but now I understand (being married) that they loved each other very much and that was one way they showed they loved each other ;).

Some of the memories I have of my grandpa include him teaching me how to play chess, and I remember him always telling me to stay far behind the car in front of me when I learned how to drive. I remember him encouraging me to vote and to always go to the lowest priced gas station. I remember when he and grandma lived with us he would buy all kinds of treats and he would let me divy them up between me and my sisters cause I was the oldest. I also remember eating all of my stash cause I knew he would bring more home. He wanted us to have things that he never had when he was a kid including candied pineapple and fruit cake. I remember grandpa driving cars for rental companies at the airport and I remember him always trying to tell us about pyramid schemes like USANA. He was a hard person to buy gifts for. I remember my mom always having the hardest time picking out gifts for him but she knew that he liked chocolate covered cherries so we pretty much got that for him every year.

My grandpa only had one eye and I remember him coming to my elementary school and eating lunch with me. I told all the kids about my cool grandpa and his glass eye which he loved to use to play tricks on people. Those are my most vivid memories of grandpa. I am glad he is in a better place now and I am glad for the example he set by joining the church and for his desire for his kids to have a better life than he had. I can't wait for Ansley to meet her great grandpa one day.

All my love to you grandpa...

This little video slide show was put together by my uncle Erick.
